Avoid the fall-back classic!
We've sat and watched countless people sidle up to the bar to order a drink, only to watch them make the same mistake over and over again. After patiently waiting for their turn, the bartender eventually makes his way over and asks, "What'll it be?" This is when it happens, that momentary lapse in memory when the patron stares blankly at the bartender. Once he sees the answer isn't immediate, he starts over to the next money-holding thirsty customer. Seeing that he's losing the attention of the bartender the patron resigns himself to the first drink that pops into his head, "Can I have a rum and coke, please."
Rum and coke is one of the most over ordered and overrated drinks, which is why we've deemed it the "fall-back classic." It's the drink you wouldn't order if you could come up with a better option. Well folks, here is your other option:
WEEK 13
Mexicola
2 ounces tequila
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
2 to 3 ounces chilled cola
Lime wedge
Pour tequila and lime juice into an ice-filled glass. Top it off with cola and stir. Squeeze the lime wedge over the top and drop it in.
Save a bartender from dying of monotony and order this tricked out drink. Chances are you'll impress not only the bartender with your drinking knowledge, but all surrounding vixens, and you may even inspire a common rum-and-coke drinker to be bold and try something new. Mix it up. Live a little. And as Hans Gotman says, "Always drink to your potential."
