Back To Three

We are advocates of keeping the bar industry in the black, so we tend toward cocktails that can most easily be made at one's simple home bar. Admittedly, we have strayed from the formula of late, but that tends to happen on any good binge. You have to get a little creative, and that makes for more complex cocktails. This week, it's back to basics: 3 ingredients everyone should have on hand.

WEEK 33:

Woodward

1 1/2 ounces blended scotch
1/2 ounce dry vermouth
1/2 ounce grapefruit juice

Shake the ingredients with ice. Strain into an old-fashioned glass.

Simple, sour, and delicious. This works equally well as a way to start the night or jump start the morning. You can't make martini's without vermouth, especially the dry kind, so there are no excuses for being short. Keep some Martini & Rossi or some Gallo in your fridge. That said, if you can only go 2 for 3 here, a bourbon and grapefruit juice is a bitter kind of heaven by itself.
As for scotch, the options are endless. Try Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glengoyne—-hell any Glen will do, as long as you feel like living large with a juiced-up cocktail. Then sit back and exercise your pent-up bitterness with a glass of this. Cheers!
