Goes Well With Bloodshot Eyes

After work, an ice-cold, alcoholic anything sounds good. But this particular night a Bloody Mary sounded very enticing, yet a refreshing beer also made a great argument. On one hand you can never go wrong with a Bloody, but that can also be said for a beer. However, one requires a small effort, while the other merely requires a bottle opener. Instead of allowing laziness to conquer as it usually does, both win tonight.

WEEK 35:

Red Eye

3 ounces tomato juice
12 ounces ale or lager

Pour the tomato juice into a chilled beer mug, and slowly pour in the ale or lager.

For this particular recipe, spicy hot V8 juice was used as the base. Now, although V8 is technically a vegetable juice and not solely tomato juice, it's what we use for our Bloody Marys because it has a richer and bolder flavor than most tomato juices. As for the beer, a Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest Lager was used. If you've never tried a Leinie, you should. They have a great assortment of beer perfect for anytime of the year. And since I was in the mood for a Bloody, but got lazy, I dropped a spicy chili pepper on the bottom and dusted the top with a little pepper. Surprisingly, this was very refreshing and light tasting. Plus it satisfied my dual-crave, while still limiting the amount of effort expended. Now the great thing about this mix is that a different combination of ale or lager will completely alter the taste. So, go experiment with your favorites and let us know how they turned out.
