Merry Christmas!

Sometimes Mother Nature dictates the drink of the week. That certainly was the case this time around. In Chicago, the weather dropped below zero. Normally that'd be just another typical (some might even say balmy) winter day for us Midwesterners. However, the subzero temperatures mixed with icy winds and coupled with a torrential downpour of snow and sleet was enough to make even our nipcicles freeze. Luckily, with every turn of the season there's a perfect drink to compliment it.

WEEK 39:

Hot Buttered Bourbon

1 tsp. brown sugar
4 ounces hot water
2 ounces bourbon
1 tbsp. butter
freshly grated or ground nutmeg

Combine the brown sugar and hot water in a mug and stir until the sugar dissolves. Then add the bourbon of your choice and float the butter on top. Toss a dash of nutmeg on top and enjoy!

Not only will this drink warm your soul, inebriate your friends, and satisfy your liver, it's also easy to multiply (who knew math would actually come in handy) the above recipe to accommodate your celebrating needs. We had Maker's Mark on hand, but we went with a little Knob Creek just to mix things up a bit. Now this drink recipe has plenty of variations, including substituting dark rum (if you do, we suggest Gosling's Black Seal Rum) or Southern Comfort instead of bourbon. Hell, you can even make this a new holiday tradition and explore every variation that comes to mind. If you find a winner, email us at contactus@scapegoatink.com and we'll re-post it here.

Now that you've armed yourself properly with a warming, boozy concoction, invite some friends over, mix up a batch of Hot Buttered bourbon, embrace each other around the Christmas tree*, and sing "Trim up the Tree" (from the film adaptation of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss), the perfect song to sing while getting shit hammered with friends and family. Just make sure no one tries to hang there "Dingle Balls" on your Christmas tree. From all of us at ScapeGoat Ink, have a very Boozy Christmas!
