The End is Near!
In honor of the approaching St. Patrick's Day, we bring you a Celtic myth of tropical flavor...
WEEK 49:
Banshee
1 ounce rum
2/3 ounce creme de cacao
1/2 ounce creme de banane
2 ounces heavy cream
1 ripe banana
Combine all the ingredients in a blender with 1/2 cup ice. Pour into a chilled glass.
Named for the shrieking faerie witch and death omen of Celtic mythology, the Banshee's main thrust is, surprisingly, the banana—the quintessential tropical fruit rarely seen in traditional Irish beverages. Let this Banshee be an omen of death for this long winter. Bring your blenders out of retirement and get ready for your first taste of the many months of tropical drinks ahead. I used Goslings GOLD rum, which does muddy the drink's yellow color, but does the flavor justice. It works equally well for an afternoon of relaxation or the first step on the morning road to recovery. A toast to Darby O'Gill and the Little People!
